Dru Meditation Teacher Training Course

We are one of the first schools in Australia and the UK to offer a Meditation Teacher Training Diploma. In fact, our first complement of Dru Meditation teachers in the UK have just graduated!

On this course we emphasise the science of meditation, showing how to bring your awareness from the physical body, through to the deepest layers of your being.

We show you how to access your  individual and universal life-force helping you to generate a plentiful source of internal energy reserves. We teach you how to use the power of vibration and mantra to achieve a deep understanding of your place in the world and above all, we show you how to pass on this experience to others too!

Amongst other things, you will learn:

  • Structuring and planning meditation classes
  • Dru prana kriyas, pranayama, mudra and visualisation techniques
  • Meditations for each layer of experience, or ‘kosha’
  • Meditation in the workplace
  • A deep understanding of subtle energy
  • Meditative prayer and contemplation techniques
  • Chanting/singing and mantra meditation
  • Meditation for healing the body and the earth

Course entry requirements

In order for us to be able to move the whole group ahead at the same pace, we expect you to have attended two Dru Meditation retreats before the Teacher Training Course, and to be familiar with the basic Dru Yoga and Meditation techniques found on those retreats. These include:

  • Knowledge on the chakras and subtle energy systems
  • Working knowledge of Energy Block Release sequences 1, 2 & 3 and other Dru Yoga sequences
  • Experience of the Prana Kriya techniques
  • Good knowledge of the Vertical Alignment, Blue Mist and other techniques taught on the preparatory retreats
  • An established daily meditation practice
Australia is a large country, and if you are unable to meet all of these criteria we will help you tailor individual solutions.

Course structure

Each module takes you progressively through the five layers of experience (koshas).

You will develop a regular meditation practice and will be given detailed guidelines for optimising your personal experience of meditation.
You will explore methods for teaching a wide range of meditation techniques, how to manage classroom energetics, how to understand students’ meditation experiences, and you will practice teaching through the senior modules of the course.

If you are choosing to do the course for your own personal development, without any intention of becoming a teacher, you will find our teaching practice sessions to be supportive, friendly and invaluable for your own mastery of the techniques.

Home study will consist of refining your practice.

Location and dates

We expect to offer the next intake of the Dru Meditation Teacher Training course towards the end of 2009.

The course will consist of three, four-day modules (non-residential) per year, for two years. We expect the course will be offered either in Sydney or in Canberra.

Course Costs – 2008

We aim for the Meditation teacher training courses to have the same costs as equivalent Dru Yoga teacher training courses. If this course were starting now, each module would cost $850 for tuition, course manuals and morning and afternoon refreshments.

A deposit of the cost of the final module is required, refunded upon completion of the final module. There will be an annual increase in course fees, which we aim to tie to cost of living.

Any questions?

When are the next meditation retreats I need to attend to apply for the course?
Please email us on meditate@dru.com.au for details of upcoming qualifying preparatory events.

I’ve not done any Dru before – is this course right for me?
Many of the people on this course are already Dru Yoga teachers, so you’ll need to catch up on Dru Yoga through attending a weekly class and/or using Dru DVDs and books. You will also need to come to the 2 retreats to get to know our style of meditation and learn the pre-requisite techniques.

I am a Dru Yoga graduate – do I have to attend both retreats to apply?
Please contact the tutors (meditate@dru.com.au) and we can assess whether you’ll be able to manage with just one retreat as a preparation.
