Dru Yoga teacher training course information 2010-2011
International Qualification
The Dru Yoga Diploma Course is taught in the UK, Canada, Australia & Netherlands, accredited by Yoga Alliance, the Independent Yoga Network and the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia.
Format
Albury Wodonga, and Adelaide: 3 x 4-day modules per year, for three years. We encourage those doing the course to become teachers to start teaching as student teachers after 15 months. From this point on it is relatively easy for these classes to pay for nearly all of your course costs.
TravelThe Dru training is popular, with participants traveling from all over Australasia (including from WA, Tas, NT and NZ). We try to ensure that you have clear and easy travel suggestions to make your journey as easy as possible. Most of our courses have groups who arrange to travel together or meet up at airports – accompanied by all the warmth of great reunions!
The Albury Wodonga venue is central and easily accessible to air, train and bus services. Albury Wodonga is well serviced by all the major Australian airlines and the venue is only 5 minutes drive from the airport. We can give you full details if you need them. The Adelaide venue is a pleasant walk from the city centre and easily accessible to bus services. We can give you details if you need them.
Accommodation
Accommodation is easy for the Albury Wodonga course. We have collected a range of ideas we can send you, ranging from $55 to $80 per night upwards. One of the more attractive options is to share with a small group in a serviced apartment within an easy walk from the venue – which also means you can cook for yourself!
For the Adelaide course, accommodation is similarly easy. You can stay at the venue itself or nearby bed and breakfasts, or serviced apartments, which means you can cook for yourself. Please ask us for our venue, accommodation and transport information.
Content
During the first half of the course we introduce you to the foundations of Dru Yoga - the basic principles, postures, sequences, pranayama, meditation, anatomy and physiology. Some communication and teaching skills are also introduced during this time.
In the second half we continue to refine and develop your understanding of Dru Yoga and how it works, and also how to develop specific therapeutic programs for individuals according to their unique requirements.
We introduce new material and revisit aspects of posture work and sequences and take your understanding and experience of these to a deeper level. It is an experiential course.
Homework and Continuous Assessment
Students may begin teaching small groups approximately half way through the course if they pass their interim assessment. There are three assignments given during the course as well as short quizzes after you have covered every four course books. Part of the assessment includes a structured journal of "portfolio sheets" on the practices, which give you an invaluable reference guide.
Costs
We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to train as a Dru Yoga teacher. For example, you can reduce your fees dramatically by starting to teach after an interim assessment, half way through the course.
From then, you could cover most of your fees just by gathering a group of 6 friends at home every week, ($12/class) for 3 x 10-week terms a year.
You’d then completely cover the remaining fees if you taught 12 people in a hired hall for about 18 months (also in 3 x 10-week terms per year at $14 each per class). A great feeling!
indicative course costs in 2011 are:
36 X monthly payments: $215 - ($2580/year) 9 x 4-monthly payments: $835 - ($2505/year) 6 x half-yearly payments: $1225 - ($2450/year) 3 x annual payments: ($2315/year) 1 x payment for three years: $6720 - ($2240/year)
These prices are correct for 2011 but are subject to change afterwards due to any expense increases. On acceptance into the course we will be requesting a non-refundable deposit of $835. This amount will be deducted from your payment of the final 4 months of the course. First payments are due two weeks before the course.
Career opportunitiesIf you are thinking of teaching yoga, this is one of the most exciting times in the history of yoga. Medical research has now demonstrated the value of yoga for more than 40 major diseases, and health and wellbeing policy-makers are increasingly turning to yoga as a solution to our nation’s spiraling health costs. In many ways there has never been a better time to train as a yoga teacher. We wish you well on your course!
